Hi Everyone,

Here is what we did this week:

Reading - We talked about some reading comprehension strategies:

1. Visualizing

2. Making Connections

3. Make a Prediction

4. Prior Knowledge

Writing - We talked about similes and had fun with them.  We learned the using similes is another tool to help us add details to our stories and to create a picture in our readers head.  Here is an example of a simile:

Ms. Stephenson's class is as bright as a shooting star.

Math - We practiced doing another word problem.  To solve the problem we know we need to do 4 things:

1. Draw a picture to show our work

2. Draw another picture to double check our work

3. Write a number sentence

4. Write a word sentence

Science - We did our own research on the bee.  Ask me what I learned or know about the bee!

Social Studies - We learning a lot more about the Acadian culture.  We learned about their:

1. Traditional Clothing - woolen caps, vests, jackets, sabots, striped skirts, bonnets

2. Traditional Stories - Evangeline and Gabrielle, The Pancake Thief, and The Bell that Cries

3. Food - rappie pie, fricots, seafood

4. Important People - Father Signone, Prudent Robicheau

5. Celebrations - The lobster festival, The first snow in May, Acadian National Day

6. Music - Grand Derangement, fiddle, violin, accordian

7. Artists - Nora Robicheau, Maud Lewis

8. Dancing - La Baie en Joie
