Sept. 20 - 24

Hi Everyone,

We had a fun-filled week with our Granary Road field trip, Terry Fox Run, and Fun Lunch.  Here are some of the things we talked about in class:

Reading - We practiced retelling a story and practiced our 5 finger retell.  The five finger retell includes:

1. Setting - When & Where?

2. Characters - Who?

3. Problem - What went wrong?

4. Events - Beginning, Middle, End

5. Solution - How was the problem solved?

Writing - We looked at what makes a sentence complete.  We know that every sentence needs all four of these:

1. Uppercase to start.

2. Proper punctuation to end it.

3. Noun - person, place, or thing

4. Verb - action

Math - We practiced completing our first word problem. We now know that when we solve a word problem we need to have:

1. A picture to show our work.

2. Another picture or way to double check our work.

3. A number sentence.

4. A word sentence.

Science - We learned a lot at Granary Road about the ant, bee, spider, and bat.  In class we sorted, compared and contrasted 12 small crawling and flying animals into 3 groups - crawling, flying, and slithering.

Social Studies - We continued learning about mapping and how to read and answer questions about a map that is shown.

Have a great weekend everyone!
